Google Rules
It seems more and more that all roads lead to Google.
They have around 67% of the US search market, so if you are not listed there then you are missing out on two thirds of a very attractive market. What you should also know is that the top position in Google accounts for around 40% of all the click throughs. Second position gets around 11% and the third 8%, positions 4 through to 10 are worth around 3%-5% each.
So, in very simple terms, if you are number 1 in Google for ANY search term, you know you have captured 25% of the ENTIRE US market for that term. Worth thinking about (and that is why I use Micro Niche Finder to identify those terms I can easily get position 1 for). Do you?
The other important thing to remember is that No 1 position is worth approximately FOUR times more traffic than Position 2 and TEN times more traffic than position 10. So, to cut a long story short, if you have links on page 1, but not in position 1, then you really should focus on giving those links some serious link loving. As you can see, the effort should be worth it, especially if you manage to knock off the coveted No 1 spot.
