This morning I was reviewing my year to date figures on one of my sites and this headline stuck out at me. Why? Every keyword was worth just about 3.5 visitors each. Boy!! I hope you've got your long tail keyword strategy in place because otherwise you are sunk. Here's a quick example:

You can see quite clearly that year on year, the number of searches for 'anniversary gifts' is reducing. How can this be so? Especially when the number of SEARCHERS is increasing year on year. The answer my friend is in the long tail, searchers are becoming more sophisticated, more honed. They know that if they just type in 'anniversary gifts' they will get GENERAL results. They have learned that if they are really looking for ' paper gifts for first anniversary ' then that's what they should key into Google.

Give this some thought when you're planning your web-site strategy. Long tail is definitely where you want to be in the future.
